The Greencastle Flute Choir!
The Greencastle Flute Choir is a newly formed, vibrant chamber ensemble led by flutist and conductor Micah Layne in Greencastle, Indiana. Established in 2024, the group celebrated its debut with a heartfelt performance, announcing the rebirth of a community-based flute choir in the region.
The choir has already showcased its artistry through compelling concerts such as:
• A program featuring world premiere compositions by Sound Ecologies composers—including Luke Garrigus, Brenna Green, Rob Funkhouser, and Logan Purcell— at Doc’s Inn.
• A moving rendition of Adagio for Strings, which was captured on video and shared by the choir online at the McKim Observatory in Greencastle Indiana
Anchored in community celebration and artistic exploration, the Greencastle Flute Choir creates evocative musical experiences and champions contemporary repertoire in historic and intimate venues. Founder Micah Layne insisted on creating a high quality flute choir in the region open to anyone who wants to challenge themselves and grow for FREE. Micah donates and cultivates this community to give and give generously to those in his community and beyond. All of this work fits into Micah's deep personal philosophy of Aloha to give without financial barrier or expectation of those who come to learn.

2025 Marked the first year of collaboration and commissioning world premiere works for the Greencastle Flute Choir. In collaboration with Sound Ecologies, we have premiered and performed over 10 new works!
Mentoring And Setting An Example For Our Community
The Greencastle Flute Choir regularly performs as guest artists of the Doc's Inn Music Salon Series in Greencastle Indiana as well as other notable music venues. We strive to be inclusive and offer anyone who asks to be a part of the great work being done for free!
